IELTS Diagnostic Test — Know Exactly Where You Stand

Required for all new IELTS students before starting a course. This full diagnostic test — covering Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking — gives Afridemia an accurate picture of your current level, so you're placed in the right program from day one.

Before you begin IELTS preparation, we need to know your true starting level across all four skills the real exam tests. A level that's too easy won't prepare you; a level that's too difficult will leave you overwhelmed and discouraged. This diagnostic test removes the guesswork, so the time you spend studying is spent on what you actually need.

What the Test Covers

This diagnostic is modeled directly on the official IELTS exam — the same four sections, the same order, the same time limits you'll face on test day.

You'll complete all four in a single sitting: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking — roughly two and a half to three hours in total.

The Four Sections
Listening — 31 minFour recorded sections, 40 questions, audio plays once
Reading — 60 minThree passages, 40 questions, answered at your own pace
Writing — 60 minTwo tasks — describing a chart, then an opinion essay
Speaking — 3 partsRecorded spoken responses, reviewed as one performance
How Your Test Is Scored

Every skill is scored on the same Band 1–9 scale used across the IELTS world — Band 1 being a non-user of English, Band 9 an expert user — in half-band increments. There's no pass or fail; the goal is simply an accurate picture of where you are today.

🎧 Listening

40 questions across four sections. Your raw score converts automatically to a band the moment you finish, with a full question-by-question review of what you got right, what you missed, and why.

📖 Reading

40 questions across three passages. Scored automatically the moment you finish, with the same detailed answer review as Listening.

✍️ Writing

Marked against the four official IELTS criteria — Task Achievement, Coherence & Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range & Accuracy. Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1 toward your Writing band.

🎙️ Speaking

All three parts are reviewed together as one continuous performance — the way a real examiner listens — and scored against Fluency & Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range & Accuracy, and Pronunciation.

Listening and Reading bands appear the instant you finish each section. Writing and Speaking are reviewed by a qualified instructor — simply check back later using "View My Saved Result" on the test page to see them once they're graded.

Understanding Your Band Score
Band 1–3Beginner to elementary — limited, basic communication
Band 4–5Limited to modest user — handles familiar situations with effort
Band 5.5–6.5Competent user — effective, if imperfect, in most contexts
Band 7–8Good to very good user — occasional inaccuracies, handles complex language well
Band 8.5–9Expert user — full operational command of the language
CEFR to IELTS band score comparison chart
Your IELTS band also maps onto CEFR, the international scale used by universities and employers worldwide: A2 ≈ Band 3–4  ·  B1 ≈ Band 4–5  ·  B2 ≈ Band 5.5–6.5  ·  C1 ≈ Band 7–8  ·  C2 ≈ Band 8.5–9.

Knowing your band across each skill is what lets us place you in the correct program and set a realistic target score.
