- Overview
We’re South Dakota’s Flagship University. The affordable, nationally ranked, public research institution with a small town feel. USD offers 202 undergraduate and 78 graduate programs, and is home to 400+ faculty members. Students benefit from small class sizes and a student-to-faculty ratio of 15:1. They value the easy access they have to their professors for help and career advice. Our unique attributes include our size (with an enrollment of less than 10,000, few research institutions have our intimate setting) and our affordability (College Board – the makers of the SAT – ranks USD as the most affordable Flagship University in the United States). In fact, USD’s international tuition of $12,942 is the fifth lowest among schools nationally ranked by US News and World Report. Vermillion serves as a very safe, welcoming, and walkable home for students, and has the highest percentage of college students of any town in America according to City Lab. The student body represents every US state and 750 international students from 70 countries, offering students plenty of opportunities to expand their horizons and make new friends.
